Here are the basic steps that apply in most cases:

1. Clean and dry the area to be repaired thoroughly before starting.
2. Mix the gelcoat paste and hardener until evenly combined. The correct ratio is 2% hardener relative to the amount of gelcoat (for example, 2 grams of hardener per 100 grams of gelcoat). Work quickly once mixed, as the hardener immediately starts the catalyzing process.
3. Apply the mixture to the damaged area with a small spatula, filling slightly above the surface level.
4. Let it cure completely (usually a few hours depending on temperature and humidity). Warmer conditions speed up the process.
5. Once cured, sand progressively with wet sandpaper (starting around 220 grit, then finishing with 400 grit or finer) until the surface is smooth and level with the surrounding gelcoat.
6. Polish the area to restore shine if needed.
